Dental materials have been in a state of constant development since before the 20th century. However, many of the materials used today are the same that had been used in the 1800s; amalgam, for example. As a dedicated holistic dentist renowned for her work, Dr. Yolanda Cintron is pleased to see a change in the worldwide discussion regarding the efficacy and safety of dental materials.
In our Fort Lauderdale biological dental practice, the only question regarding materials is what is safest for our patients. In addition to avoiding substances such as mercury, present in amalgam fillings, Dr. Cintron also prefers to use metal-free materials for other restorative services, such as crowns, bridges, and implants.
While awareness about the dangers of mercury amalgam fillings has increased, the use of other metals continues into modern dentistry. Metal alloy is a prime example. Many of the dental crowns that are made today contain metal alloy, and its use is rarely questioned. Dr. Cintron has received extensive training in biocompatibility and biological dentistry. She understands that the use of dental materials requires careful consideration from one person to another. Metal alloy is a mixture of numerous types of metal. Metals contract and expand when heated and cooled. So does enamel. However, the rate these two materials move is significantly different. This variance creates the potential for further damage. Metal-free is more efficient and more attractive
Biocompatible dentistry is intended to restore natural structure as much as possible. This means that a restoration should not only look like a natural tooth but that it should act like one, as well. The fillings, crowns, and other restorations used by Dr. Cintron do not contain metal. Rather, they are comprised of the gentler material such as ceramic or zirconium.
Above all, Go Natural Dentistry prioritizes longevity and beauty in restorative dental care. We understand that every patient has unique needs and that materials are a significant consideration in each case.
