Dental care is necessary for lifelong oral health. Most people understand this, and yet many put off routine exams and cleanings. When sensitivity or pain develops, the idea of seeing the dentist can become even more frightening. At Go Natural Dentistry, you can work with a holistic dentist and dental team who understand your fears. Dr. Yolanda Cintron in Fort Lauderdale, Florida offers sedation methods that make dental visits much more pleasant.
Several methods of sedation are available today, and are used as needed in our office. The oldest method is inhalation sedation, better known as nitrous oxide. Over a century of use has proven that this convenient form of sedation is safe and very effective. Patients feel relief from anxiety within moments of breathing the nitrous oxide and oxygen mixture. During treatment, feelings of well-being and joy replace fear and stress. At the conclusion of treatment, increased oxygen is delivered to stop the sedative affect.
More recently, dentists have begun to offer oral conscious sedation. This method involves taking an appropriate medication to relieve anxiety in advance of dental care. For longer treatments or severe anxiety, Dr. Cintron may consider the benefits of IV sedation, in which a sedative is administered directly into the blood. Both oral conscious sedation and IV sedation have lingering effects, so it is necessary for patients to have a driver. Patients are advised to rest for the remainder of the day after receiving either of these forms of sedation.
No one likes feeling stressed or anxious, and we would not want this for any of our patients. Dentistry is a positive aspect of healthcare! Dental sedation enables our patients to regain control over their oral health. In many cases, we have seen patients who had previously avoided dental care, sometimes for decades, become so comfortable with the care we provide that they no longer avoid making appointments.
Sedation dentistry can alleviate anxiety, relax the mind and body during lengthier procedures, and soften a strong gag reflex. Patients who are relaxed during dental procedures also experience less post-care soreness.
We want you to enjoy seeing the dentist again! Speak with a friendly member of our dental team about sedation services.
