The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, FL, area employs more dentists than almost all other metro areas in the country. Only New York, Boston, Chicago, and D.C. have more dentists. We love to look, feel, and “be” our best! Yet, Go Natural Dentistry appreciates that you have lots of offices to choose from when looking for a dentist to meet your needs. We are proud to stand out in many ways. In addition to our biological and holistic dentistry focus, we have invested in training and equipment to make your visit as comfortable and pleasant as possible. As an intravenous sedation dentist in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Yolanda Cintron has specialized training in moderate and deeper sedation. Not all dentists in Greater Miami have demonstrated the knowledge and clinical aptitude to be certified by the Florida Board of Dentistry in IV sedation. Dr. Cintron has met and exceeded the requirements established by the state. So, she can legally and safely administer sedative medications intravenously.
Other dentists in the area may only be able to provide a mild form of sedation to patients; nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” is delivered through a nasal mask to induce relaxation. The relaxing effects wear off quickly. But they may not be sufficient for all types of patients, especially those with greater fear or anxiety, or those who are undergoing complex and lengthy procedures. This is where sedative options come into play.
Dr. Cintron will discuss other ways to administer relaxing medications, including oral sedation and IV sedation. She always recommends more conservative sedative methods first. Oral conscious sedation is considered the next option up from nitrous oxide or laughing gas, for those patients with more moderate levels of anxiety or concerns such as gag reflex, which can be made worse due to stress. This method involves taking a calming pill as prescribed by Dr. Cintron.
Intravenous sedation is the step beyond oral medications. The sedative prescribed to your needs is administered intravenously through a vein. A numbing cream may be applied to help ease fears over needles. So, you will not feel anything, and soon you will be without a care! In Dr. Cintron’s capable and qualified hands, treatment with IV sedation is safe, predictable, and may be adjusted quickly. Many patients get so relaxed that they fall asleep and take a nap during the procedure. Afterward, they don’t recall much if anything – and that’s just the way they like it!
We appreciate that many patients have dental fear. Go Natural Dentistry does not want this apprehension to keep from getting the care you need to be healthy and to have your best smile.
