WHAT IS THE RITA METER? DIAGNOSTICS GUIDE DETOXIFICATION PLAN, YOUR PATH TO HEALTH IN FORT LAUDERDALE, FL
The safe removal of metal fillings that contain mercury is a cornerstone of Go Natural Dentistry in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We use proven technologies and tools to develop a personalized treatment plan for your complete dental revision and detoxification. The RITA meter represents one of the most powerful tools that we can use to identify the electrical current emitted by each metal filling and each metallic dental restoration or appliance. When we know the levels generated by each restoration, we can then prioritize their removal and replacement with fillings and crowns made from non-toxic materials.
BASICS
Also known as electro-galvanic testing, the RITA meter is the brainchild of the late Dr. Hal Huggins. A pioneer in the concepts of identifying toxic dental materials and the process of balancing blood chemistry, Dr. Huggins advocated for the development of a multi-disciplinary approach to reversing autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, and improvement of symptoms, such as chronic fatigue. Similarly, Dr. Huggins was an outspoken opponent of the placement of amalgam fillings that contain 50% mercury by weight. When present in the mouth, the toxin seeps into the body’s tissues and organs from that day forward. He asserted that patient symptoms might, indeed, be “all in their head” – the lower third of the head where toxins reside in the form of dental materials, including amalgams.
The Huggins’ protocol also concerns itself with the role amalgams and other materials play in developing additional medical conditions and symptoms, ranging from MS, ALS, arthritis, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s to anxiety, depression, irregular heartbeat, and sexual dysfunction. The removal of toxic materials stops the exposure to the toxin; however, healing and repair take time and are supported by holistic guidance on the likes of nutrition from Dr. Yolanda Cintron and her team at Go Natural Dentistry. Detoxification is a marathon, not a sprint. It is more important to detox right and gently rather than to rush the process.
THE PROTOCOL
More than 50 years ago, Dr. Huggins developed a system guided by blood chemistries. He identified a “Stability Point” (normal range for blood reports) that accounts for healthy populations. Traditionally, they compared measurements to those hospitalized populations who were already sick. We want to be our best selves and in the best health. So, Dr. Huggins’ findings were developed around the idea that we should compare our blood chemistry to “well” people – not sick people. And, as chemistries move toward a healthy range, they could validate new drugs or treatments. If, however, values trended away from the stability point, this indicates the medication or treatment may be causing more harm than good. Blood chemistry represents quantifiable data to determine if individuals are getting progressively healthier.
As a patient undergoing a dental revision, your mouth will be examined. Pictures (radiography) will be taken. Models of your teeth may also be made to evaluate how your upper and lower teeth come together when you bite down and serve as guides when replacement teeth are made. Then, we use the RITA Meter as another diagnostic tool in our arsenal to measure the electrical currents emitted by restorations present in your mouth. It will help us determine the appropriate, sequential order to replace fillings, crowns, or metallic appliances. Sequentially, the quadrant containing the highest electric charge is removed first. Then, the quadrant with the second-highest measurement is removed, and so on.
RITA meter reading is one of the most important aspects of a complete revision or detoxification, especially for patients suffering from chronic illnesses and symptoms. These readings should be taken within 48 hours of your dental appointment. The foods you consume, such as vinegar and oil dressings, can alter the pH in your mouth. As pH fluctuates, electrical readings also change. So, you can get different results based on factors such as the foods or drinks you consume. Furthermore, the nervous system is immediately affected by discharges of toxins at the treatment sites. So, it’s generally not advised to take readings in advance for future reference.
Generally, the meter itself is easy to use, non-invasive, painless, and fast. It is notably considered when determining the prescriptions that Dr. Cintron writes for blood drawing. As a blood chemistry-driven process, she may order:
- CBC – Complete Blood Count shows the red and white blood cells generally altered by mercury amalgams and treatments, such as root canal therapy. From this, we can glean how your immune system is functioning and determine how dental modifications can trigger renewed immune function.
- Blood serum – Demonstrates how well your body takes in carbs, fat, and protein. It represents a scientific basis for personalized dietary or nutritional guidance.
- “Compatibility” testing – Provides insights into the dental materials that are interfering with specific immune functions and the materials that can be safely used in your mouth (your compatibility with them).
A nutritional program is also based on blood chemistry interpretations and should be started as soon as possible. This detailed diet may be suggested following the first blood test and then refined based on the results from follow-up tests. You may start supplements before dental procedures. Again, supplementation is generally based on blood chemistries (not type). Acupuncture and massage can also be beneficial following removal methods that minimize the release of mercury vapors or particulate matter. These techniques include lots of water and high-speed suction to remove mercury and nickel (in crowns).
Dr. Huggins’ research takes medical literature about the effects of electrical currents dating back to the 1880s to the next level. So, his innovations and instruments are based on well-documented findings and the notion that supporting tremendous changes in blood chemistry measurements supports enhanced recovery from “dentally-stimulated diseases.”
