The International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT) is a network of more than 800 dentists from around the globe who are committed to the practice of biological and holistic dentistry. Dr. Yolanda Cintron is a proud member of the IAOMT and looks forward to showing you how Go Natural Dentistry is different from traditional dental offices. As a biological dentist, Dr. Cintron has invested in only those non-toxic biocompatible materials and methods that support oral and whole-body health. We congratulate you for researching biological practitioners and encourage you to “vet” any practice that you are considering.
There are things you should ask, from a biological dentist in Fort Lauderdale FL, which help to determine if the office is authentically “holistic,” and highlight what makes these providers different from conventional practices – for the benefit of your smile, health, and overall wellbeing.
Does your office place silver fillings? No. These amalgam fillings are silver in color, but they are primarily made from a known toxin: mercury. Responsible holistic dentists only place mercury-free fillings made from safe and aesthetically pleasing dental ceramics.
How does your office remove mercury fillings? Many dentists may market themselves as “mercury-free,” but they don’t address the safety protocols that come into play when removing these fillings. Go Natural Dentistry is “mercury-safe,” and has invested in equipment and training to minimize the release of mercury vapors and particulates during the removal process.
How do you feel about root canal therapy? While conventional dentists continue to practice this therapy, Dr. Cintron and other IAOMT members focus on preserving the health of natural teeth and treatment alternatives. The big concern here is that bacteria can never be fully cleaned out or removed from the center of the tooth. Harmful pathogens remain behind and threaten the integrity of the remaining natural tooth structure and the rest of your body.
What do you use in place of fluoride? If the dentist responds, “What’s the problem with fluoride?” this is a dead giveaway that they are not holistic. We at Go Natural Dentistry do not believe the risks of ingesting fluoride are worth the “benefits” touted by conventional dentists. Cosmetically, fluoride is associated with a condition called “fluorosis,” or chalky white teeth patches and alarmingly researchers have linked this mineral to wide-ranging medical concerns – from bone fractures to bone cancers.
What types of x-rays do you use? We offer traditional x-rays and CT Scans. Advanced imaging systems emit one-tenth of the radiation of their traditional film counterparts. They are also associated with comfortable, efficient, and accurate processing.
Do you use titanium for dental implants? Many dentists place implants in the jaw that are made from metal. Replacing teeth in this manner increases the risks of an allergic reaction or other sensitivities, as many people’s bodies do not respond well to metals. The metal-free, ceramic implants at Go Natural Dentistry are not only biocompatible (tissue-safe), but they are also long-lasting (do not corrode) and look the most like real tooth structure.
Can you use ozone for my procedures? Ozone therapy is considered to be a gentle, non-traumatic, precision, and fast alternative to many conventional sources of dental fear, such as cutting instruments and drills. Dr. Cintron uses ozone to unlock your body’s natural healing capacity, and for the most comfortable experience before, during, and after treatment.
Does your office use advanced technologies, like CT scanners? Our answer would be, “Absolutely!” Generally, these technologies allow for problems within oral structures to be detected early, clearly, and very precisely. With an accurate picture of your concerns in hand, Dr. Cintron can build an effective treatment plan; for instance, she knows exactly where to place each dental implant. So, your new teeth are built to last.
What products do you recommend for infections or pain? Naturopathic and homeopathic remedies complement Go Natural Dentistry’s holistic and biological principles. Antibiotics resistance and reliance on pain meds are real problems. We make every effort to avoid many of the problems that lead to pain or infections from the get-go.
What are some other alternatives that you have to traditional dental instruments (like drills)? A truly biological dentist will talk about laser dentistry (such as the Waterlase system), and how it further complements adjuncts like ozone therapy. Investments in these types of technologies and devices are simply better; they are better for you as a patient in that they are less traumatic, and help to put patients at ease, as the sound and sensation of the dental drill is a common source of fear and phobia.
Do you offer “well” visits? As a holistic practice, the dentists that you interview absolutely should offer wellness consultations in addition to their array of dentistry services. The very term “holistic” accounts for all aspects of the person, beyond the health of the teeth and gums. We are happy to provide personalized insight into areas of your life, not limited to nutrition, and managing risk factors for conditions such as gum disease.
What types of sedation do you offer? Holistic dentists create an environment that supports relaxation and a pleasant experience. We address non-sedative ways to put patients at ease first. Then, as needed, sedation is safely personalized to each patient’s needs; for instance, Dr. Cintron offers three levels of sedatives, including nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation, which are appropriate for those with modest anxiety and more severe fear alike.
How do you detect cavities? Biological dentists bring to bear a mix of expertise and sophisticated equipment, which allows for tooth decay to be detected early when it is also easiest to treat. Early detection and intervention, with minimal exposure to radiation associated with traditional x-ray systems, should be the goal of any biological practice. Go Natural Dentistry, for one, uses the KaVo DIAGNOdent laser to see “hidden” decay, and the three-step Pro Select to prevent and treat gum disease proactively and noninvasively.
What follow-up do you offer after silver fillings are removed? Removing the toxic material is just the first step in restoring your health. Dr. Cintron schedules appointments afterward to monitor for mercury that has been leached into the body from dental amalgam. She will also get you on a detox and nutrition program that supports speedy and healthy recovery from chronic mercury exposure.
During a consultation with you, Dr. Cintron is happy to answer any other questions you may have. She also looks forward to acquainting you with additional services, such as biocompatibility testing, Plasma Rich Growth Factors, TMJ pain relief, and recommendations for non-toxic supplements, oils, toothpaste, rinses, and other oral care products.
