Dentist in Ft. Lauderdale explains how to care for dental implants

Dental implants are truly a wonder of modern dentistry. An implant substitutes for the root of a missing tooth. It can be topped with a porcelain crown for a replacement tooth that looks incredibly natural, feels normal in the mouth, and restores chewing function
Prospective patients often have questions about living with this type of dental work. Dr. Yolanda Cintron, a holistic dentist at Go Natural Dentistry in Ft. Lauderdale, shares these tips on caring for dental implants.
Standard dental implants
A standard dental implant is typically used to restore a single missing tooth. (Several teeth, or even a whole arch, can be replaced with implants.) Restored with a porcelain crown, the implant tooth looks and feels completely natural. Dr. Cintron recommends caring for it as you do your natural teeth:
- Brush after eating, using a non-abrasive toothpaste or herbal tooth powder and a soft brush. Her hygiene team will be happy to demonstrate proper brushing technique to keep teeth clean and gum tissues vital.
- Floss at least once a day, before bedtime. No special flossing precautions are needed, since the implant is securely fused with your jawbone.
- You may use an irrigation device with a dental implant.
- Maintain regular check-ups so that Dr. Cintron can monitor your oral health and answer questions about its interconnection with your whole body wellness.
